GI JIVE festival
The GI JIVE is a festival aimed at commemorating and celebrating the presence of the US Air Force based in Kilkeel and the wider Mourne area and at Greencastle Airfield, Cranfield during World War Two and in the run-up to D-Day.
We hope to bring the past to the fore, recreating the sights, sounds and flavours of the war years in Mourne through a series of events. Step back in time with us and re-live the 1940s! Not only will this festival celebrate the role the GIs played in local history but it will also commemorate the massive loss of men on the beaches of Normandy and across Europe.
Events and activities scheduled, with the main celebrations taking place at Mourne Esplanade, Kilkeel. There will be other attractions such as historical exhibitions, guided walking tours of the remainder of Greencastle Airfield, talks and displays, vintage 1940s makeovers etc.
There will be historical re-enactments, aviation displays, vintage cars, 1940s dancing, swing music and American themed stalls and food, giving you a taste of the 1940s.
